Blockupy: big protest hits Frankfurt

At least 25,000 people marched through Frankfurt last Saturday as part of a "Blockupy" weekend of events.

Blockupy is an offshoot of the Occupy movement aimed at the European Central Bank, which is based in the German city. The demo went through the heart of Frankfurt—or "Bankfurt", as many protesters called it.

Many events and actions were organised together with left party Die Linke, including a rally with international speakers.

The protests showed that many in Germany—the country whose government is demanding more austerity for the people of Greece—do not support these policies of pain.

Instead they raised slogans like "We did not cause this crisis" and "Tax the millionaires". Speaker after speaker insisted, "We are all Greek".
