IBEC wants more attacks on low paid in budget

The employer’s body, IBEC, have made clear what they want to get out of the upcoming budget. Even before their budget submission they wanted a pay freeze until 2013. IBEC want to cut tax credits by 6% which would basically mean a 220 euro rise in tax. This would hit the poorest workers hard. They also want to abolish Joint Labour Commisions- the means by which wages are set in sectors such as hairdressing and for security guards. A 5% reduction in those areas would see the average barperson lose 945 euro a year, while the average security guard would see his or her wage drop by 1000.
