Calls for a national one day public sector strike

A major national conference of trade unionists from both the public and private sector has initiated a call for a co-ordinated national one day strike of the public service to stop the government cutbacks and attacks on workers wages.

The conference was happening as all public sector unions were balloting for industrial action over the government imposed pay cut under the guise of a ‘pension levy’.

Recently dismissed cleaners are picketing outside in response to the actions of contractor Schorman.

Tesco: Mandate members vote 95% for strike action

Mandate balloted their Tesco members in these stores for industrial action and the workers voted overwhelmingly in favour by a margin of 95% in favour of strike action. The union have told the company that this course of action is necessary due to the company's breach of the 2006 agreement regarding reducing hours below the ‘Banded Hour Contracts.’

Meath County Council workers prepare for fight over wage cuts

As reports continue to flood in of workers around the country facing pay cuts, more than 350 outdoor workers employed by Meath County Counil, and Navan, Kells and Trim Town Councils are to ballot next Tuesday on strike action over pay cuts. They are expected to vote overwhelmingly for action which could halt grass-cutting, street sweeping and the collection of litter across County Meath
